A yearly tradition at the Pilot Peak Plant will take place once again on May 9: the spring clean-up of the plant area known as "Alaska Day", named for Alaska's style of spring cleaning after the winter weather build up of litter, etc. At Pilot Peak, the winter also creates a build up of debris due to high winds in the area, so the idea of a yearly clean-up event that was also fun was enthusiastically embraced five years ago when the first Alaska Day was held.

Plant Manager, Jack Elliott, estimates that about 60 acres of ground are cleaned in about 2-3 hours by the available staff - usually around 30 employees, including many who are off-shift. The day is doubly rewarding: the end product is an impressively clean Pilot Peak, topped off with pie and ice cream for all.
